Andray Blatche, SPL Alum
After being drafted by the Washington Wizards and playing in the 2005 SPL league, everything was looking rosy for the 6' 11" center from Alexandria, Virginia, but things abruptly begin to change. On September 25, 2005, Blatche was involved in a carjacking near his home in Alexandria, but miraculously, the bullet did not hit any vital organs. Then on August 2, 2007, Blatche was arrested for sexual solicitation in a Washington, D.C neighborhood. The charges were eventually dropped. Lastly, on June 4, 2010, he suffered one more blemish to his record when he was charged for reckless driving on a suspended license. Blatche was going 86 MPH in a 70 MPH zone in his Mercedes.
Since these incidents, Blatche seems to be making better decisions on and off the court and it has shown in his play for the Washington Wizards. The Wizards recently rewarded their center with a contract extension that will pay him $35M over the next five years. Not bad for a 2nd round pick, 49th overall, in the 2005 NBA Draft. We highlight the former SPL alum NBA career statistics.
